915 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Welcome Home Stanger
Location: Ready Room
Timeline: Current

After settling into her quarters Shauna put on a fresh uniform making sure she was presentable, then headed out to the CO’s Ready Room. Pressing the chime she waited for a response before she walked in.

“Shauna Callaghan, Second Officer and ships Archaeologist and Anthropologist Sir.” She offered a warm smile. “I was already assigned to the Ares when the news came across that we had a new CO and First Officer. I wanted to get back onboard so I could introduce myself, and make sure everything was ready for you. I guess I was a little late.”

"Have a seat, Commander. You are here now and welcome aboard the Ares.,,again. Tell me a little about yourself. I like to know about my command team." Alec replied with a smile.

Shauna took a seat in front of the desk and made herself comfortable. “Well after I graduated the Academy I served aboard the USS Washington as Archaeologist and Anthropologist, which lead to a short year aboard the USS Kirk as their Archaeologist. My first assignment as Second Officer was aboard the USS Wildcat, where I served for 3 years, before reassigned to the USS Churchill during which I was temporarily promoted to First Officer. Now I’m here as your Second Officer, Archaeologist and Athropologist.”

Alec looked through a stack of PaDDS and held one up and quickly browsed it. "Yes, most impressive, how did you like being First Officer?" Alec asks and looks at her before going on." Says you are married to Casey Callaghan. Where is he? If the question isn't too personal."

Shauna paused. “Casey and I have unfortunately been separated most of our married life, mostly by Starfleet not assigning us to the same ships. At present it’s a long distance relationship.” She sighed. “As for being First Officer... it was quite the experience. I’m not sure if I’m quite ready for that high a jump in my career yet though.”

"That must stink." Alec replied. "Perhaps things will change and you will be reunited sooner rather than later. As for First Officer, Don't doubt yourself. I think when the opportunity comes and it will, you will be ready."

Shauna smiled warmly. “Thank you Sir. Yes, it does stink. Casey and I met at the Academy, fell head over heels in love, and married shortly afterwards. I’ve been campaigning to Starfleet about assigning us together, but so far no luck.”

"Keep plugging away. Your luck may change, and you will be reunited with your husband. Never stop fighting for something you believe strongly in or want." Alec advised her,

Shauna nodded. “I will Sir, I plan on being with my husband, and the sooner the better! In the meantime I’ll be concentrating on my duties here.”

"I know you will do your best Shauna. May I call you Shauna? And never stop fighting to be reunited with your husband. Make it happen." Alec stressed.

Shauna nodded. “I will, and please feel free to call me Shauna it saves the titles!” She smiled warmly. “I know you haven’t taken formal command of the Ares as yet, so hopefully I’ll have a chance to get everything ready for you ahead of then.”

"You have time Shauna. so no worries. Just do your job." Alec answered with a smile,

“I will Sir, that’s a promise.” Shauna smiled warmly. “I believe we’re expecting more crew replacements soon, have Starfleet given you any firm plans on when the ship is due to depart? Or what our assignment will be?”

"We are and some have already arrived. There will be a command team meeting a little later to discuss the Ares mission. As to when we depart , could be in ten minutes or days." Alec replied.

Shauna nodded. “Understood Sir. Either way we’ll be prepped and ready to go, even if it’s just for a shakedown.”

"That is what I want to hear. Be prepared for whatever comes." Alec answered. "I leave it in your capable hands to make sure we are prepared for whatever comes whenever it comes."

“Aye Sir, I just hope I live up to your expectations.” Shauna offered a concerned glance. “There’s nothing worse than giving someone the wrong impression.”

"Do your best all the time and you never have to worry about giving me the wrong impression. Plus, the only expectations you need to worry about are the ones you set for yourself." Alec replied.

“Of course Sir” Shauna smiled warmly. “I guess I have been piling the pressure on myself recently. I appreciate your understanding Captain.”

"Relax Shauna. You are here. You made it. Just do your job and let the people around you do theirs. Everything will be fine," Alec assured her.

"Of course Sir" Shauna smiled warmly. "Is there anything you need me to do right away in preparation for your official arrival onboard?"

"Nothing in particular Shauna. Just make sure all departments are ready to receive their new commanding officer." Alec replied with a smile.

Shauna nodded and smiled. "That I can definitely do Sir. In that case I'll leave you to it." she stood ready to leave. "It's been nice talking to you Captain."

"The pleasure is mine Shauna. I enjoyed our conversation. My door is always open. You don't need an invitation to stop in." Alec answered.

“Thank you Sir.” With that she headed on her way, she had a lot to do.
